Review: With Principal Ergonomics, the choice is yours: facility-wide, departmental, or project-by-project reviews.
- The first step can include a confidential assessment of injury and Workers' Compensation records to determine areas with high musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) incident rates. (MSD injuries are also called strains/sprains, cumulative trauma disorders (CTD) or repetitive motion injuries. MSD injuries can affect the soft tissues and lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, or over-exertion injuries to the back.)
- Next, a complete facility walk-though can be conducted to review existing equipment and processes, both on the factory floor and in office settings. Potential problem areas are identified. The completion of the review process includes a written report and/or a presentation to safety and management.
Analysis: The second step in a Principal Ergonomics program is analysis of any potential problem areas.
- Based on sound ergonomic principles and the latest practices in the field, an analysis can be provided that looks at how to eliminate or reduce MSD injuries. Analyses can be conducted on potential problem job or on specific jobs where injuries have occurred.
- Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Essential Job Function Requirements can be conducted on individual jobs. (This is an excellent opportunity to have an Ergonomist conduct your job safety analyses and to make job improvement recommendations during the process.)
Recommendations: Once the review and analysis of your workplace are complete, thorough recommendations will be made to management. Depending on your business, recommendations can be as simple as changing the layout of existing equipment or adjusting the height of a monitor on a desk; or they can be more complex, requiring new processes and/or equipment. Together we will develop an action plan for implementing improvements that best meet your needs.
Principal Ergonomics can also recommend equipment vendors who are attuned to your company's particular needs for ergonomically designed tools, material handling equipment, furniture, and more.
Training: An additional service offered through Principal Ergonomics is customized, on-site training. Whether for employees on the floor, in the office, or managers, training can be developed and implemented in your workplace, on your schedule. If an ergonomics committee exists, or if you would like to start one, Principal Ergonomics can provide training and ongoing support to this group as well.
